1.
My child is 6 months old. Is this too young to start swimming lessons?
No, not at all. You can start mommy & me swimming lessons with your child from as young as 3 months old. At this age and level we sing and laugh and play as we focus on teaching basic water survival skills. We’ve had some great results with young babies. Check out our video – the little one floating is only 13 months old.
2. What if they cry, should I persist??
Firstly, do not pick a program which could traumatize your child. The methods we use are gentle and fun, and also get great results. Remember, also, that this is probably a totally new environment for your little one and this may upset them. Little by little they will learn to love coming for swim lessons. Our indoor pools mean that consistency is maintained year-round, regardless of the weather.
3. What exactly should I expect my
baby to learn?
The first thing we teach the babies is to roll over
on to their backs, enabling them to breathe and call
out for help. This is done in a very gentle way and
the child is supported by the parent. As time goes
on the parent supports the child less and less and
will eventually be able to float independently on his
or her back. The baby is also taught to blow bubbles
and gently put their face into the water. All this
prepares them for the next stage involving independent
movement.
