Drowning is the leading cause of death in children under 5 years of age, which is why swim lessons are a vital part of child development and should be started as early as possible.
British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival for over 30 years. Our methods are based on teaching beginners of all ages that the back float is the most important water survival skill of all. This type of floating enables all swimmers to rest, breathe and call for help thus alleviating the “silent danger” of floating face down.
Founder Rita Goldberg formed British Swim School Franchising, LLC in 2011. Goldberg says:
“I do not feel 30 years could possibly have passed since those first scary days of our basement pool, but they have. Looking back, I have nothing but gratitude at being able to turn a passion into a career and at the same time helping save many thousands of lives and bring the joys of swimming to people on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Rita Goldberg
Before opening her British Swim School locations in the United States, Rita Goldberg was a national swimmer in Britain who went on to become a dedicated teacher. Working in the education system for many years, she left to open her own private swim school in 1981 in the basement of a Victorian house in Manchester, England. It was there that she developed the unique teaching methods that have become the recognized trademark of British Swim School.
Ten years later, Goldberg migrated to the United States where she started her British Swim School in Coral Springs, Florida. British Swim School has grown rapidly and there are now British Swim locations in three states. Goldberg is still a driving force behind the success of the British Swim School system and is an active member of the US Swim School Association.
Antony White
After working as an administrator in Britain’s higher education system for many years, Antony White moved to the United States in 1997 to join Rita Goldberg and the British Swim School team.
Assuming the role of manager, White quickly fell in love with the British Swim School model and mission.
In 2002, White became Goldberg’s business partner and is currently in charge of British Swim School operations for all corporate locations and for British Swim School Franchising, LLC.
British Swim School teaches children of all ages water survival skills including stroke development, breathing techniques and skill coordination.
